50 Shades of Green at Canapa Mundi [photogallery]

Feb 23, 2019

After several months in production with 50 Shades of Green, the first exhibition of the artwork finally happened, with a three-day showcase at the Rome-based cannabis trade show Canapa Mundi.

In brief, I’m very happy with the exhibition: plenty of positive feedback, plenty of happy people enjoying the scented stroll through the colorful tunnel (I have dedicated another photo gallery to these happy fellas), and a pretty good feedback from the media, specially the media dedicated to cannabis culture. I’ve also met several of the organizers of the other Italian cannabis trade shows where the installation will be hosted in the next months, and took advantage to start talking logistics at their shows.

But mostly, I’ve been happy to play with the cannabis terpenes provided by my technical partner Cali Terpenes, offering different olfactory experiences every day, and applying the terpenes three times a day, in a sort of performance that always caught the interest of the visitors. Here are the cannabis scented experiences I designed for Canapa Mundi (I will design different scent paths at the next exhibitions):

DAY 1: FRUITY
AK 47 — sativa
Blackberry Kush — indica
Lavander — indica
OG Kush — sativa
Pink Plant — sativa
DAY 2: SPICY
Black Dream — hybrid 50%
Girl Scout Cookies — hybrid indica
Jamaican Dream — sativa
Sour Diesel — hybrid sativa
Tangie — sativa
DAY 3: CITRIC
Amnesia — sativa
Cheese — hybrid 50%
Critical — hybrid 50%
Grapefruit OG — hybrid indica
Orange Turbo — sativa
While I’m pretty happy with the outcome and the experience I was able to offer, I’ve been a bit frustrated with the space I got allocated at the venue, as the ceilings were lower than expected, and the space was not as long as needed, so the final length of the art installation was just around 19 meters rather than the 25 it was designed for. But the artwork is designed to be flexible, so it was enough to reduce the space between shades to make it fit in the smaller space. And I understand the choice for the space – the trade show was packed, and there was truly no other possible location for the artwork.

Also, the lights of the room that hosted the art installation were a bit lame, not strong enough to enjoy the installation in the full colors in the second part of the afternoon. On the other hand, rather than being “inside” the trade show venue, the location were I installed 50 Shades of Green had a full wall of glass windows on one side, so in the morning and until after lunchtime the installation was literally invaded by natural light, which exalted the colors, but also highlighted the wrinkles in the fabric. You cannot have it all, right?

Again – if I have to make a balance, I’m more happy than frustrated, so let’s say it was a good one! See it for yourself by browsing the photo gallery here below, that includes some pictures of the tear down of the installation after the show, and don’t forget to check out the other photo gallery of happy Canapa Mundi people interacting with 50 Shades of Green!
