Production Kick-off: Cutting and Sewing Textiles

Dic 18, 2018

I’m excited to announce that the actual production of 50 Shades of Green has finally started. I have collected the textiles I ordered a few days ago, and spent three days working in a tailor shop in Rome, cutting and sewing and physically starting creating all the 50 shades.

The choice of a tailor shop has been a no brainer, as there was way too much fabric to be cut and sewed and, even if I can do some basics with a sewing machine, I really needed some expert skills and, most of all, professional sewing machines, those running at hyper-speed which are 100x faster than the average sewing machine at home.

Hussain (from Bangladesh) and Hamed (from Ghana) have been fantastic, and also very fast – basically they were completing 5 perfectly sewed shades each in the time I was able to complete one, with plenty of mistakes and re-doing. We completed the entire operation in three days but, without the help of Hussain and Hamed, it would have had for me a three weeks process.

Now the shades are ready for the next step, coloring, to which I will dedicate a new blog post. For now, enjoy some pictures from the cutting+sewing production step.
