This summer I didn’t participate to Burning Man, nor to Nowhere or any of the other regional gathering that, after two years of covid, started popping up again.
My last burn has been three years ago, back in the summer of 2019; with the 2020 and 2021 events being canceled for covid, I was really looking forward to spend the best of my summer to Nowhere in the Spanish Monegros desert. I even had the ticket, although overpriced. But I didn’t go.
After exactly 20 years of deep commitment to Burning Man, I finally figured out that, while Burning Man and all related gathering and events could be fun, and yet sometimes inspiring, the entire “thing” has lost the status of “transformational platform” that once, back in my days and mostly in Larry Harvey’s days, used to be. So I lost all interest and I didn’t go. Couldn’t resell my ticket, who cares?
So this was a burn off for me, even if I was ready for it – including with a bunch of new tracks that I really wanted to play live, but I’m dropping into this mix.
This is dedicated to all burners. Burn on, or burn off – whatever suit you best. Just don’t forget to dance.
